It’s been eight long years since we’ve heard The Champions bellowing from every corner of the Stadio Olimpico, but thanks to last season’s dramatic third-place finish, Roma is back among Europe’s elite. While we’re still a couple of weeks away from the club’s official return to the Champions League, we finally know which seven clubs Roma will face in the League Phase.
Earlier today at UEFA HQ in Nyon, Switzerland, the fate of all 36 contestants was determined by a supercomputer, which apparently has
a grudge against the Giallorossi. While no path out of the League Phase is easy, Roma drew two heavyweights: two-time defending champions PSG and mighty Real Madrid, led by José Mourinho, who will return to the Olimpico for the first time since being sacked by the club two years ago.
In addition to Real and PSG, Roma will face Sporting (home), Manchester United (away), Lille (home), Fenerbahçe (away), Slovan Bratislava (home), and AEK Athens (away). The League Phase runs from early September through late January before the Knockout Phase Playoffs begin in mid to late February, with the Round of 16 commencing in March.
