Brahim Díaz has broken his silence following his missed penalty in the Africa Cup of Nations final against Senegal, posting an emotional message on social media in the aftermath of Morocco’s defeat.
The
Real Madrid attacker, who committed to representing Morocco internationally, took full responsibility for the miss and apologized directly to supporters, describing the moment as deeply painful.
“My soul is aching,” Díaz wrote. “I dreamed of this title because of all the love you guys have given me, for every message, for every show of support that made me feel like I’m not alone. I fought with everything I had, with my heart first.”
Díaz did not shy away from accountability, addressing the decisive moment in the shootout directly.
“I failed yesterday, I take full responsibility, and apologize from the bottom of my heart.”
The 25-year-old also acknowledged the emotional toll of the loss, admitting that recovering from the disappointment will not be easy.
“It’s going to be hard for me to get up, because this wound doesn’t heal easily, but I’ll try. Not for me, but for the sake of all who believed in me, and for all who suffered with me.”
He ended the statement by reaffirming his commitment to Morocco and its supporters.
“I will keep going forward until one day I can return all this love to you and be proud of the Moroccan people.”
