According to Mike Klis of 9News, the Denver Broncos have waived outside linebacker Garrett Nelson. The 2023 undrafted player from Nebraska has spent time in the UFL in 2024 with the San Antonio Brahmas before joining the Broncos in July when the team sent Johnny Walker to injured reserve.
Garrett Nelson went undrafted in 2023 out of the University of Nebraska, where he was a team captain known for relentless effort, leading in sacks and tackles for loss
over his career. He initially signed with the Broncos but was released, then played in the UFL with the San Antonio Brahmas in 2024, earning that experience before rejoining Denver. At 6-4 and 245 pounds, his motor and intensity stood out in camp, earning views as a backup outside linebacker prospect. Coaches noted his leadership and pursuit skills, though competition at edge rusher kept him on the fringes. His path included a brief Bengals stint in 2023.
Given he joined the team late in the offseason for training camp and the preseason, I’m not sure he’ll be a guy they target for the practice squad.
