Four-star wing Joey Kohnen from Slinger, Wisconsin, is the second player from the 2028 recruiting class to receive an offer from the Gonzaga Bulldogs, joining four-star shooting guard Jordan Mize of Sierra Canyon in Chatsworth, California.
Kohnen holds other offers from the Michigan Wolverines, Wisconsin Badgers, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Butler Bulldogs, Iowa Hawkeyes, and Iowa State Cyclones.
The 6-5, 195-pounder hailing from the Midwest played for Team Herro with Gonzaga’s
2027 point guard commit Dooney Johnson on the Nike EYBL circuit over the summer. Unfortunately, Kohnen broke his ankle in his first AAU tournament and missed six weeks before bouncing back for HS Live, EYBL, and Peach Jam.
In his sophomore high school season with Slinger, Kohnen showed off his skills as an electric rim-rattler and made his case as an efficient shooter off the bounce with fluid mechanics. Wisconsin’s Division 2 First Team All-State honoree averaged 15.7 points and 4.0 rebounds per game while leading his group to a Division 2 state runner-up finish.
Joey plays alongside his older brother, four-star wing Jack Kohnen out of the 2027 recruiting class, at Slinger. Jack is currently committed to Head Coach T.J. Otzelberger and Iowa State, a program that also offered his younger sibling back on Sept. 16, 2025.
