The Texas Rangers scored two runs but the New York Mets scored five runs in ten innings.
The Rangers reinserted one of their stars right back into the middle of the lineup. He went 0-for-4 in the cleanup spot and the Rangers lost. Maybe the rascals are only rascals when they’re little.
For a while there it seemed like we might have a repeat of yesterday’s win with the Rangers trailing 1-0, giving up a solo home run to go down 2-0, and then utilizing a late-innings, two-out rally on their way to a comeback.
Alas it wasn’t to be this time. Texas had their chances but couldn’t make use of a few golden runner-on-third-with-less-than-two-outs situations — including in extras with their free Manfred Man — and it came back to bite them as their winning streak came to an end.
Some good news: The Astros lost to the woeful Braves to slip (at least momentarily) out of first place in the American League West.
Player of the Game: Joc Pederson’s two-out, two-run RBI single to tie the game in the seventh was the only hit with RISP for either team until Pete Alonzo’s 10th inning home run with New York’s zombie runner in scoring position.
At the time, it looked like Pederson might have helped the Rangers pull off another Houdini act but it wasn’t to be.
Up Next: A big AL West battle in the Silver Boot conclusion looms large for the Rangers at the former Juice Box as RHP Jack Leiter will take the mound in the opener for Texas against a pitcher to be named for Houston.
The Monday night first pitch from now Daikin Park is scheduled for 7:10 pm CT and will be aired on the Rangers Sports Network.
