The Columbus Clippers had a very successful Friday night game against the Louisville Bats. Austin Peterson took the mound first for Columbus, throwing 4.0 innings of scoreless baseball. Peterson allowed three hits, two walks, and struck out two. Shawn Armstrong, on rehab assignment, threw the fifth inning. Armstrong allowed one run on two hits. Trent Denholm improved to 11-5 on the season with the win. He pitched the remaining four innings, giving up two runs on five hits and no
walks. Denholm struck out five.
The Columbus offense was raking in the runs, scoring twelve on fourteen hits and eight walks. The first crooked number inning came immediately in the top of the first. With two outs and a runner on via hit by pitch, Kody Huff and George Valera hit back-to-back singles with Watson scoring on Valera’s single. Milan Tolentino hit a single of his own to score Huff. Blake Perkins drew a walk, loading them up again and forcing a very early pitching change. Dayan Frias and Dom Nuñez drew walks to score the final two runs of the inning. They batted the round with lead off hitter, Cooper Ingle, striking out for the final out.
In the top of the fourth they tacked on two more with another singles parade. Frias and Nuñez hit back-to-back singles with no outs. With two outs, and the runners now both in scoring position, Kyle Manzardo singled to right. Frias and Nuñez both scored to give the Clippers a 6-0 lead.
Five more runs were added in the fifth inning with Milan Tolentino kicking things off with a one-out solo homer to right field.
Perkins and Frias drew back-to-back walks. Nuñnez singled to center to score Perkins and reach first. Cooper Ingle launched a three-run home run to left center to bring the Clippers lead to 11-0.
The final run came in the ninth, to add insult to injury. The Bats made two quick outs, but Kahlil Watson reached base on another hit-by-pitch. Kyle Manzardo and Kody Huff hit back-to-back singles to score Watson before the final out was recorded.
Akron RubberDucks (66-68) – AA
AKR 2 – ALT 4

The RubberDucks and the Altoona Curve kept it a close game Friday night. Unfortunately the Curve did pull ahead in the bottom of the eighth, scoring all four of their runs. Rafe Schlesinger gave Akron a strong, quality start. Schlesinger threw 83 pitches and went into the seventh inning. He finished the night have gone 6.1 innings of scoreless baseball. Schlesinger gave up four hits and two walks, striking out five.
Michael Kennedy fell to 1-2 on the season with a blown save in the eighth inning. Kennedy came on to finish the seventh with a 2-0 lead, but lost it in the eighth. Kennedy loaded the bases with two singles and a walk then gave up a two-out grand slam to give Altoona the lead and ultimately the win.
The RubberDucks got on the board first in the top of the sixth. Aaron Walton singled and stole second base to put himself in scoring position. Welbyn Francisca hit an RBI single to score Walton.
Bennett Thompson led off the top of the seventh with a single to center. With two outs and the runner on third, Jace LaViolette tripled to center, scoring Thompson.
