Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford had a hell of a year in 2025. He led the NFL in passing yards and touchdowns and helped bring his team within one game of the Super Bowl during an MVP-winning season.
But do you know what Stafford didn’t do? He didn’t lay the turf, mark the yard lines, or set up the goalposts. Why? Because that would be silly.
But Cody Rhodes, WWE’s self-professed QB1? He’s a different kind of quarterback, apparently.
Rhodes came to SmackDown to sign a contract to face Gunther
at Clash in Italy. After stopping to shake hands with Wade Barrett and Joe Tessitore, Rhodes decided to set up the field himself. He tossed chairs into the ring and set up a table before calling for Gunther to sign on the dotted line.
The so-called top guy in the company doing manual labor. How uncool. And dressed in suspenders, no less.
This is the same guy who once barked at his boss, SmackDown GM Nick Aldis, “You work for me.”
Don’t be so sure about that, Code-Man. If you have to set up the ring for your own contract signing, you’re probably one step away from popping popcorn at the concession stand.
Nonetheless, Rhodes will defend his title against “The Ring General” on May 31 in Turin. Perhaps if he can beat Gunther decisively, he might join Danhausen and the Tribal Chief in consideration for WWE’s 2026 MVP.
