To start off. I spelled Feyereisen’s name on the first attempt from memory. Please clap.
A very quick Google search for “Feyereisen meaning” gives you an entry from familysearch.org, a genealogy website
of unknown quality or trustworthiness. They say that the name is from Luxembourg and Germany. It’s a combination of the words meaning fire and metal in Middle High German, and given to a metal or ironworker.
Why do I bring this up? It’s a valid question, one to which I frankly don’t have a reasonable answer too. Perhaps, I merely find the entymology of unusual words and names to be fascinating. Perhaps I’m just grasping at straws to get this article to a reasonable length.
For truly, what does one say about such a footnote in the history of the Diamondbacks. He pitched two games, which is too many for me to reprise my pitch-by-pitch review I gave to Silvino Bracho years ago, but not really enough to analyze, even if you include his additional two games for the Dodgers later in the season.
His first game was decent enough. He pitched a hitless inning, en route to a Diamondbacks loss to the Cubs. His second… he choked. He came in to pitch the top of the tenth to the Rays, gave up three runs, and again, the Diamondbacks lost.
To make you feel better about his time with the Diamondbacks, just glance at his stat line for the Dodgers. His first appearance, he failed to record an out and gave up a game winning run to the Marlins. His second appearance, three runs to the Athletics. Just a terrible season
2025 Outlook
If I’m reading the transaction logs correctly, he was DFA’d by the Dodgers and ultimately chose free agency. The only entry after that was him joining Mexican Winter Ball with the Jaguares de Nayarit. Someone will probably try again next season. It might even be us, with the complete lack of depth we have in the bullpen. But I hope not.
