Did anyone’s star shine brighter than Jonathan Taylor’s for the 2025 Indianapolis Colts? The veteran stepped up big and helped carry this team to several victories on the year. Yes, he regressed in the second
half of the season, but who didn’t? He still put together one of the greatest rushing performances in franchise history.
A staggering 20 touchdowns with 18 of those coming on the ground paved the way for his historic season. His touchdowns weren’t goal line sneaks from the one-yard line either. When Taylor ran, he ran with power, purpose, and breakaway speed. How many huge plays did we witness him make over the course of the season? Because of his big play ability, he amassed 1,585 rushing yards, and his 2025 season sits as the fourth-highest rushing total in franchise history.
Let’s not forget about the Berlin game that he won single-handedly by gashing the Falcons’ defense. His monster run to take a late lead broke the Colts’ record for rushing touchdowns, and his overtime score kept the season afloat, if just for a moment. He helped Daniel Jones thrive, but was also subject to a decline with Jones’ decreased quarterback play and his eventual injury. Even then, Taylor was in contention for the NFL rushing title until the very end.
Would it have been nice to parlay a historic season from Jonathan Taylor into postseason success? Sure, but this is a 53-man sport. Taylor did far more than his part. It was an encouraging sight from someone who has battled injuries the last two seasons and appeared to be on a decline. The Colts might not get 2025 Taylor in 2026, but if they get anything close, they will be in a good spot.
