The 2026 NFL Draft continues on Friday night with Rounds 2 and 3 of the three-day event. The San Francisco 49ers will kick off Day 2 on the clock, and that will start at 7 p.m. ET Friday night.
As of right now, the Detroit Lions only have one pick on Day 2—their original second-round selection at 50th overall. They had two third-round picks, but both were used in the trade up for receiver Isaac TeSlaa during last year’s draft.
While the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft featured shorter times between
picks (from 10 minutes down to eight), the subsequent rounds aren’t any different than the past few years. So we should be able to estimate when the Lions’ 50th overall pick should occur based on recent history. Here’s how things have played out recently:
- 2025: Seattle Seahawks selected TE Elijah Arroyo at 8:29 p.m. ET
- 2024: Washington Commanders selected CB Mike Sainristil at 8:26 p.m. ET
- 2023: Green Bay Packers selected WR Jayden Reed at 8:26 p.m. ET
- 2022: New England Patriots selected WR Tyquan Thornton at 8:32 p.m. ET
In the last four years, the selection times of Pick 50 have been incredibly consistent. So, if the Detroit Lions stay at pick 50, their selection should be announced somewhere between 8:25 and 8:35 p.m. ET.
Of course, there’s always a chance Lions general manager Brad Holmes moves around on Day 2 of the NFL Draft. For what it’s worth, the final pick in Day 2 usually wraps up around 11 p.m. ET. So if they manage to add a third-round pick, they could be picking well into the night. But if Detroit stays put, they’ll be sitting around pickless for the final 2.5 hours of Day 2.
