The Big Ten only had one game on Thursday, which featured Washington returning to action against Denver at home. The game eventually went according to expectations.
Let’s take a look at what happened.
Game of the Night:
–Washington Huskies 84, Denver Pioneers 70
The
Huskies had a nice start to the season on Monday, blowing past a terrible Arkansas Pine Bluff squad at home. Fans were hoping the team could keep that going against another team projected to do pretty terribly this season in Denver on Thursday night. Fortunately for fans, those hopes largely went according to play, as Washington went on to score an 84-70 win at the final buzzer.
Hannes Steinbach was the star of the show, finishing with 13 points, 16 rebounds, and four assists in the win. All told, seven Huskies would finish in double-figures in an incredibly balanced scoring night. Wesley Yates also had another nice showing with 13 points and two rebounds. Washington scored 1.2 points per possession on the night, which is a pretty good showing, regardless of opponent.
Washington will now prepare for easily its toughest game of the season to date, as the Huskies will travel to face Baylor on the road on Sunday. KenPom has Washington as a serious underdog in the game, so fans will have to hope those preseason projections are flawed. A win would obviously boost Washington’s hopes significantly.
