Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across Major League Baseball. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Yankees fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.
On Sunday afternoon, the Yankees celebrated CC Sabathia’s brilliant career, which ended with them in 2019 after 11 seasons in the Bronx. This past offseason, he was voted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame by the BBWAA on the first ballot, and after his Cooperstown
ceremony in July, the Yanks had his plaque on display for their aforementioned own salute to the southpaw.
That same day, our own Michael Zeno pondered the question of another potential honor for the 2009 World Series champions’ ace. Sabathia has a resume that stacks up with many of the 37 former Yankees currently enshrined in Monument Park, and he might even have the case for a number retirement, too. Michael made the argument that CC deserves both, while some in the comments thought that a plaque alongside the likes of Tino Martinez, Goose Gossage, and Allie Reynolds made more sense. Still others think that CC comes up just shy.
