You would be excused if you had forgotten that Chelsea have a striker named David Datro Fofana on the books, and have in fact had him for over two years now.
A surprise signing from Molde FK in January 2023, Fofana would go on to make four appearances (no goals) in all competitions for the Blues that season before hitting the loan trail that summer. His first move was to Union Berlin, which was a bit of a disaster for all involved. In the winter, he switched to Burnley, which would go a little better.
Then last summer, he joined Göztepe, but would end up getting recalled in February thanks to a long term injury, finishing the season with just nine appearances and two goals.
Fofana’s still just 22, so his career is hardly over, but he certainly won’t be commanding a hefty transfer fee. To wit, as per L’Equipe, Toulouse are ready to pay only around €4-5m for the young striker. But they are not the only team “in the running”, with fellow Ligue 1 side OFC Nice also putting out feelers — though they are only interested in a loan with an option to make the transfer permanent
Take the money, I say. (Unfortunately, Toulouse may be having troubles with the wages.)
