Late news
Antonio Conte doesn’t do anything unexpected, trotting out the XI everyone expected. Paolo Vanoli, on the other hand, springs some surprises. The big one is up front, where Roberto Piccoli gets another start; apparently his injury wasn’t that serious despite a lot of reporting that he wouldn’t be able to play this one. Farther back, new signings Marco Brescianini and Giovanni Fabbian comprise a very attack-minded midfield with Nicolò Fagioli.
As a reminder, Fiorentina fans are banned from traveling
for the remainder of the Serie A season. I have no idea what psychological impact that’ll have. Given how much time the players have spent apologizing to the away supporters for their abject performances, maybe it removes a burden. Maybe they slump even more than usual, though, without any external accountability. One game won’t determine this, of course, because the Partenopei are heavily favored and should win this one easily. Just another thing to consider over the duration of this accursed season.
