Sandro Tonali continues to attract interest from Juventus, Manchester City and Manchester United, with Newcastle placing his value between £90m and £100m ahead of the summer transfer window.
Some January comments from the player’s agent intensified discussion around his future, but Newcastle remain confident in their position.
“At his best, Tonali is one of the most dynamic midfield players in the country, with an incredible engine and a remarkable ability to snuff out opposition counter-attacks,”
The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards said.
A key factor complicates any potential move, and that’s related to his prior ban from playing, related to gambling issues, with Newcastle showing their full support of the player amid such a bad-looking situation.
“The problem for potential suitors is Tonali does feel a debt of gratitude to Newcastle after they stood by him during his 10-month ban for breaking gambling rules, which was discovered shortly after his £55m move from AC Milan in 2023,” Edwards said.
Contract length also strengthens Newcastle’s stance.
“There is a hope that a player under contract until 2030 will stay for at least one more season and he has privately assured both sporting director Ross Wilson and Howe that he is not thinking about a move,” Edwards said. “That stance may shift, though, if he knows a big club are ready to bid for him.”
Tonali’s agent, however, left the door open for an exit as soon as this summer, making his future in Newcastle “uncertain,” as stated by Edwards.
