It wouldn’t be an international break without someone picking some sort of new injury, and the (un)lucky victim this time around looks to be Jamie Gittens. The young winger reportedly “limped off” after
“clearly struggling” around the hour mark of England U21’s win over Republic of Ireland. He would head “straight down the tunnel”. Not a good sign!
It’s taken a while for Gittens to get going at Chelsea after joining from Borussia Dortmund in the summer, but he’s started to show some signs of life including that wonderful goal against Wolves in the League Cup the other week. He may not be a starter, but he’s part of the rotation and thus helpful in spelling tired legs (especially Pedro Neto’s tired legs).
Gittens was one of three Chelsea players to start this game; thankfully both Josh Acheampong and Tyrique George appear to have come through without any issues. In fact, George scored a great goal showing off his excellent shooting technique once again.
And speaking of goals, here’s Marc Guiu scoring one for Spain U21. Good work!
