The Detroit Lions signed safety Bishop Fitzgerald off the Steelers practice squad Tuesday, Steelers Now’s Alan Saunders reported per the NFL transactions page.
Fitzgerald, who joined the Steelers shortly after roster cutdown day before the regular season, will now be joining the Lions’ 53-man roster.
The move correlates with two practice squad signings the Steelers already made on Tuesday, adding
former Giants wide receiver Isaiah Hodgins as well as cornerback Darius Rush.
Pittsburgh already had one open slot on its practice squad following Max Hurleman landing on injured reserve Saturday. Now, Fitzgerald’s departure opens up room for both new signings.
Currently, the Steelers have four defensive backs on their practice squad: Sebastian Castro, Rush, Doneiko Slaughter and Car’lin Vigers. Slaughter has already been elevated to the Steelers’ active/inactive roster twice this season, meaning he can only be added one more time before the team would be forced to sign him to the 53-man roster to have him on game days.
