“Remember the Name” will be back.
Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight champion Belal Muhammad suffered a dominant unanimous decision loss to surging Brazilian contender Gabriel Bonfim in the main event of UFC Vegas 118 yesterday (Sat., June 6, 2026) inside the Meta Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.
A few hours after the loss, Muhammad took to social media to address the setback.
“Alhamdulillah for everything,” Muhammad wrote. “Too blessed to be stressed. You don’t find out who you are
when everything goes your way. You find out when it doesn’t. Grateful for the journey, grateful for the lessons. I’ll be back. … Thank you to all my supporters, my team, and family. Congrats to my brother on his big win. His hard work paying off on his way to the title.”
Muhammad (24-6) is now riding a three-fight losing streak — the longest skid of his professional career. Prior to losing to Bonfim, he dropped a unanimous decision to Ian Garry at UFC Qatar and then lost the Welterweight title to Jack Della Maddalena (watch highlights).
At 37 years old, but still hanging around the upper end of the Top 10, it is tough to say exactly where Muhammad fits in the division moving forward. Is he officially sliding into gatekeeper status for ranked opposition? Or will UFC use him as a test for surging unranked fighters?
Either way, names such as Mike Malott or Yaroslav Amosov certainly feel like possibilities for “Remember the Name” next.
But for now, Muhammad already has something else on the books. He will be Ben Askren’s final wrestling opponent when they collide on July 18 at Real American Freestyle (RAF) 11.
