With Bayern Munich’s preseason nearing its conclusion, there is plenty to feel encouraged about heading into the new campaign. Vincent Kompany’s squad has already had the opportunity to work through several different challenges, and there have been encouraging signs along the way.
The results have certainly been positive, with Bayern Munich picking up wins against RBV Leipzig, Jeju SK, and Aston Villa while also putting together an emphatic victory against Rottach Egern. More importantly, the performances
have provided opportunities to see how Kompany wants his team to play and which players could have important roles once competitive matches begin.
The preseason has also been particularly interesting because of the opportunities given to Bayern Munich’s younger players. With several established players unavailable at different points, youngsters such as Bastian Assomo, Maycon Cardozo, Tim Binder, Tom Bischof, and Aleksandar Pavlović and newcomers like Nathaniel Brown and Ismael Saibari have had opportunities to show what they can contribute. Some of those performances could give Kompany plenty to think about when making his squad selections.
At the same time, there are still questions that need to be answered. Injuries have limited some key players, while Bayern Munich are still working toward having the entire squad available and fully integrated. The midfield structure, defensive consistency and how Kompany balances his tactical options will all be worth watching once the season officially begins.
With only one friendly remaining before the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup against Borussia Dortmund, the preseason evaluation period is almost over.
So, what is your verdict?
Are you feeling confident about Bayern Munich heading into the new season, or have these preseason matches left you with more questions than answers?
