Last night in Clearwater, the team’s first round pick this year tied the rubber for the first time.
The young man probably has stuff that will blow away most of the hitters that are currently at that level of competition. He’s an accomplished college pitcher that is simply getting a few innings in before the 2025 season comes to a close.
It’s never too early to think about what his next steps are going to be. When Wood was drafted, there was some thought from people that maybe he could help the team’s bullpen this year, but that was never really a consideration. That would have been an incredibly aggressive timeline for the team and not truly in the best interests of the player. For 2026 though, might an MLB debut be in his future?
It’s our question of the day: what do we think Wood’s timeline for MLB arrival is? If they are truly committed to having him remain as a starter, that probably adds another year to his eventual debut unless he just cannot be held down any longer. If there is an inkling that maybe his arrival in 2026 would help the bullpen without derailing his eventual development as a starter, perhaps the team will try him out there. It’ll be something to watch with each start he makes.
