It’s hard to believe that Purdue men’s basketball has an exhibition game in just 10 days. So today, in preparation for that day Purdue sent head coach M att Painter, Daniel Jacobsen, and CJ Cox out to Big Ten media days which this year took place in Rosemont, Illiinois. This will be an interesting season for the Boilermakers as they transition from the Braden Smith, Fletcher Loyer, and Trey Kaufman-Renn led team to one that feels young and energized. CJ Cox will be returning as a starter for Purdue but
he’s the only one after the Boilers lost those three seniors plus one year transfer Oscar Cluff. That’s highly unusal for a Boilermaker squad that has been set in stone for the last few seasons with a few new ingredients thrown in around the three main guys.
You can watch Matt Painter below:
Gold and Black shared video of Matt Painter facing the media:
Painter said that unlike in year’s past the starting lineup is not yet set and that he’ll use the upcoming exhibition games to figure things out. “I’ll use those to kind of figure out what the hell we’re doing. I might do different lineups, I could do the same lineup, I’m not sure, we scrimmage, so that’ll be a good step.”
You might’ve seen this quote making it’s way around the internet today. Purdue talking about Antione West.
Painter is not a guy who throws around meaningless complaints to every guy so when I hear Painter say something like that the hairs on the back of my neck sort of stand up. My Spidey sense goes off if you will. That could mean big things for the redshirt freshman. Sidenote, with the 5 in 5 are we calling them redshirt players anymore or are we just going with their year in the NCAA? So West would just be a second year player? Let me know which sounds better to you.
The players also stepped up the microphones to talk about the team, expectations, and many more things. Take a look at them here:
There will be much more to come on this men’s basketball team as we ramp up for exhibtion games in 10 days before the real season kicks off next month.
