Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre crowned a new universal champion as well as holding special cup matches to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Arena Mexico on Friday night (Apr. 24, 2026).
This broadcast also marked the debut of CMLL live on Fox Sports 2 in a new TV deal for Mexico.
The main event was a three-way battle to crown the annual universal champion.
Mascara Dorada, Hechicero, and Black Tiger earned their way through qualifying matches against other champions in the preceding weeks. World historic welterweight champion Mascara Dorada won the CMLL Universal Championship for 2026 by pinning Black Tiger off a shooting star press. Dorada becomes a two-time winner, previously winning the universal championship in 2024.
The men’s Copa 70 Aniversario de la Arena Mexico was contested in an 8-man tag team bout with CMLL stars against the Callis Family. Teams were Mistico, Ultimo Guerrero, Angel de Oro, & Neon versus Rocky Romero, Volador Jr., Mark Davis, & El Clon. In the end, Ultimo Guerrero landed a dive onto the pile outside, and that cleared the path for Mistico to submit Romero on La Mistica armbar.
The Amazonas Copa 70 Aniversario de la Arena Mexico was an 8-women elimination free-for-all with Keyra, India Sioux, Reyna Isis, La Jarochita, Olympia, Lluvia, Zeuxis, and Tessa Blanchard. The finish came down to Zeuxis and Blanchard. Zeuxis survived an onslaught of three consecutive cutters to rally for a package piledriver to win.
