Vincent Kompany is pleased to see a strong Bayern Munich contingent included in Jürgen Klopp’s first Germany squad, but he also believes the new national-team era could provide additional motivation for some of his players.
Klopp announced a 44-player roster on Thursday, split into two groups for Germany’s upcoming Nations League matches. Bayern Munich has the largest representation, with nine players selected across the two squads.
Speaking about the announcement, Kompany acknowledged that the transition
following the 2026 World Cup could give some players an opportunity to reestablish themselves.
“We’ve all been told what the plans are, and that’s now being communicated. I’m glad that many of our boys are in the squad. One or two of them might have something to prove (following the World Cup). I can tell that our boys are highly motivated. With Jürgen Klopp, it’s a new chapter – our players are certainly looking forward to it,” said Kompany (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
That “something to prove” comment is particularly interesting given the changes Klopp has already made. The new Germany head coach has introduced 16 potential debutants while leaving established names such as Leroy Sané and Deniz Undav out of the 44-man selection.
For Bayern Munich, the international break should therefore provide another opportunity for several players to make their case under a new coach — and Kompany clearly expects them to embrace it.
