News broke on Wednesday afternoon that the University of Michigan has fired head football coach Sherrone Moore. Athletic Director Warde Manuel released the following statement when news of Moore’s firing broke:
Statement from University of Michigan Athletic Director Warde Manuel
U-M head football coach Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately. Following a University investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff
member. This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior.
Biff Poggi has been appointed head football coach in an interim capacity, effective immediately.
Per Manuel’s statement, Moore was fired after an investigation conducted by the university found that the head coach had an inappropriate relationship with a staff member – meaning that the firing was for cause. Biff Poggi will take over the program for the meantime in an interim capacity while the team prepares for its matchup with Texas in the Citrus Bowl on New Year’s Eve.
This is a developing story and there will be more to come.
