Rumors have been swirling about Chris Jericho’s contract status and next move for at least a couple weeks now, ever since he (or whoever runs his Instagram account) “liked” a post about his being open to a WWE return when his AEW contract ends in a few months.
An answer from AEW head honcho Tony Khan about Jericho’s future in his company didn’t really shed much light on the situation. Would the 54-year old former WWE and AEW champ’s first response tell us much more?
Here’s what he told The Daily Mail
when they caught up to him at Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights (no word on if Y2J hit The Wyatt Sicks haunted house):
“The best thing that can happen in wrestling is AEW. And the fact that there’s two huge promotions that you can choose from just makes it better for the guys, it makes it better for the fans, and everybody in between.
“So I’m not going anywhere for a while, I’m still with AEW for right now. Would I go back to WWE? I wouldn’t be opposed to it. We just have to see what happens. But the best thing that can happen is that you have two great teams that you can play for, and that just makes everything bigger and more exciting.”
A diplomatic answer that doesn’t shut any doors for him*. His current AEW deal is believed to run through the rest of this year.
Back to speculating…
* I’m sure some diplomacy would be required of both parties for a Jericho/WWE reunion to take place, but I don’t think that’s a big obstacle.
