Good morning, baseball fans!
It’s been a minute since we’ve had any updates about the Women’s Professional Baseball League starting later this year. That’s because there hasn’t been a lot of news since the draft a few weeks ago, in which the as-yet unnamed San Francisco team drafted Kelsie Whitmore with their number one pick.
The league does not start until late summer, however, which leaves the players with some time to fill. And fill it, they are.
Earlier this week, the Savannah Bananas announced
on social media that Whitmore will be re-signing with them for their 2026 season as well!
For those who have not had the joy of watching them before, the Bananas are a groundbreaking and extremely popular exhibition team playing in the Banana Ball league. The team has taken the world by storm over the last few years, with tickets selling out venues all over the country, from baseball stadiums to football arenas. Fans who have not had luck in procuring tickets can still catch games online, as they stream freely on YouTube.
If you haven’t had a chance to watch them, I highly recommend it. The games are a mix of baseball (obviously), extreme sports (you’ve got to see some of the trick plays these folks are doing), mini-concerts, Broadway, and just an absolute blast for everyone involved.
Whitmore has, of course, played for the Bananas before, having been the first female player that they brought on board. And I look forward to watching her play in the Banana Ball League once again until we get to see her play for San Francisco later this year.
