The Portland Trail Blazers 2026-27 season gets its pre-start tomorrow as the Blazers face the Golden State Warriors in the first preseason game of the year. Before we get underway, here’s one more off-season exercise for you to consider.
For years we’ve run annual awards for the Blazers in several categories. They’re interesting and fun, but sometimes they suffer from obviousness. I mean, who was going to be the MVP of the season back in the mid-2010’s besides Damian Lillard? For several years we renamed
it the “MVP (Besides Dame) Award” for just that reason.
As I ran down the roster earlier today, it occurred to me how few of this season’s awards would be obvious or pre-set. Maybe this is a sign that the roster is getting deeper and more diverse. It’s also a signal that we should put up a prediction post so you can call your shot on the winners for the season. So here we go.
Below is a list of awards for the year. Take your best guess at who will win each and why, then share those thoughts in the comments section below. The awards are:
- MOST VALUABLE PLAYER
- MOST IMPROVED PLAYER
- DEFENSIVE PLAYER of the YEAR
- MOST INSPIRATIONAL PLAYER
- BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT
Take your best shot at who ends up in each category and enjoy!
