Manchester City manager Andree Jeglertz has used his pre-match press conference to give some much-needed injury updates ahead of Saturday’s WSL clash with West Ham. The Blues have won five of their six
matches so far this season and take on a team that is sitting at the bottom of the table, having lost all their opening matches.
And in worrying news for the Hammers, Jeglertz told reporters that defender Rebecca Knaak and midfielder Grace Clinton could feature on Saturday as the Blues continue to hunt down Chelsea at the top of the WSL.
Clinton had an injury ahead of England’s internationals while Knaak, who is yet to feature in the WSL this season, was an unused substitute in the match against London City Lionesses in September. “I think both Rebecca and Grace have been training fully now for the last week,” Jeglertz said in his conference today. “So we expect them to hopefully be able to participate in the game or at least be able to be part of the game on Saturday. “It was a great week for them to get some more time.
Clinton has seen her time at City limited following her move from Manchester United, however, injury forced her to miss the start of the WSL season. She finally made her debut in the 5-1 win at Spurs, scoring the fourth and City fans will be hoping to see a sustained period of the midfielder in the first team.
While it is good news for the duo, City are still waiting for the return of stars Lauren Hemp, Kerolin and Mary Fowler. Kemp and Kerolin were both injured in that win at Spurs and have not featured since, while Fowler is still working her way back after an ACL injury.
Jeglertz confirmed that they were progressing well and hopefully, we will see them back in action before long. “Lauren was part of the session today a little bit. Lily has been part a little bit and Kerolin and Mary are still doing their own stuff. Everybody is following the plan and hopefully some of them will be back sooner.
“But they’re definitely working hard to get back as quickly as possible.”
City face the Hammers in Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off, where victory could take them to the top of the table, depending on the result of Chelsea’s home match against London City Lionesses.
