Buckeyes offer class of 2028 California native
Ohio State has long been a national recruiting power, and with California now firmly in the Big Ten’s footprint, the Buckeyes have greater access to top talent on the West Coast. That reach paid dividends again this week.
On Thursday, Ohio State offered a scholarship to Jalen Flowers, a 6-foot-1, 165-pound defensive back from California in the class of 2028. Already one of the hottest names in his cycle, Flowers holds nearly 20 offers, including from Arizona,
Oregon, Texas A&M, USC, and Washington. Adding the Buckeyes to that list should only raise his national profile.
Rated as the No. 127 overall prospect and the No. 8 safety in his class by the 247Sports Composite, Flowers has quickly established himself as a priority for elite programs. Position coach Matt Guerrieri is leading the charge for Ohio State, identifying Flowers as an early cornerstone target despite the fact that he still has three more seasons of high school football ahead of him.
With the Buckeyes making deeper inroads into Southern California, Flowers is a name fans should expect to hear plenty about in the years to come.
Ohio State Offers 2027 Arizona Cornerback
The Buckeyes weren’t done handing out offers this week. Late in the week, they extended one to Mikyal Davis, a 2027 cornerback prospect from Desert Edge High School in Arizona.
At 5-foot-11 and 170 pounds, Davis is already a coveted recruit, holding more than 30 offers from programs such as Florida State, Miami, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, USC, and Washington. Though ranked just No. 338 nationally and No. 38 at cornerback in the 2027 class, the sheer number of high-profile offers illustrates how highly regarded he is across the country.
Ohio State has had recent success recruiting in Arizona with players like Lathan Ransom and Denzel Burke, and that track record could give the Buckeyes an edge in Davis’ recruitment. The staff’s next step will likely be to get him on campus for a visit—possibly as soon as this season.
