Offensive lineman Blake Frazier is hoping to improve his third season at Michigan. He did not see any playing time as a freshman in 2024, but the Wolverines played Frazier in every game last season.
Frazier spoke with Jon Jansen on the In The Trenches podcast this week to discuss that and more. Here’s what he had to say.
On his role at the end of the 2025 season
“It was a dream come true,” said Frazier. While it was great to see so much time on the field, Frazier is now focusing on improving as a leader and how he can contribute more given
his experience at the end of last season.
On goals during the offseason
One of the biggest goals this spring for Frazier was putting on weight. He mentioned that while he may have had the right technique on some plays, he was getting overpowered by guys on the defensive line. He also wanted to make sure he’s focusing on the scheme of the run game and making sure he doesn’t make those mistakes in 2026.
On his confidence heading into 2026
Frazier talked about his new position coach, Jim Harding, and how he is working on simplifying the offense. Harding even adopted some of the team’s on-field calls, Frazier said, so they can focus on the scheme changes ahead of the season. Frazier said as long as they understand the scheme and can communicate with each other, they’re going to be fine come the fall.
On the new makeup of the offensive line
“We just hang out all the time,” Frazier said. “We’ve got one of the closest units on the team. We’re with each other off the field all the time.” They are also focusing on building those relationships to make sure they’re connecting on the field together. While they’ve had some players move around on the line, he thinks they’re going to have chemistry on the field this season.
On putting on weight in the offseason
Frazier said managing his weight is one of the most difficult things he does as a player. He is trying to manage losing weight at practice and he is now able to adjust and make sure he’s consuming the correct amount of calories. He said he’s consistent at breakfast with four eggs, a waffle and a breakfast meat. He is not a big dessert guy, but he occasionally will enjoy a concrete mixer from Culver’s or a shake after practice.
On what to expect from this offense
“We’re going to be able to run the ball.”
While Frazier is confident this team will move the ball on the ground, he also shared they’ve been stressing pass protection this offseason. Frazier knows the offense needs to be able to throw the football, even if it has a consistent ground game, and the team is focusing on how it can do that this season.
On the development of QB Bryce Underwood
Frazier said that quarterback Bryce Underwood is more composed and understands the game differently. Underwood is getting more comfortable and has a better understanding of how he can lead the offense in 2026, according to Frazier.
On having OL Jake Guarnera at center
Frazier said the thing he noticed most about Jake Guarnera’s move to center is that Guarnera is quick to call things on the field. Frazier said there isn’t necessarily the perfect play on every down, but the fact Guarnera gets to the line and makes a call is helping the offense make more plays on the field.
On the changes to the roster in 2026
Frazier said the roster changes have been a good thing overall. The consistency on the offensive line has been helpful, but Frazier said the team is full of guys who understand the program and know each other and love each other. While there are differences, the standard overall is still the same.
On the thought of winning the Joe Moore Award in 2026
Frazier talked to Jansen about how it’d be an honor to win the Joe Moore Award in 2026. He says the unit knows it needs to stay consistent if they hope to win it this season. He says they’re not making the same mistakes at practices, which is good for the unit.
