Fans of the Cleveland Browns have seen it all. When a team is struggling, they will pull out all the stops to try to motivate their team, get an advantage over the other team, or just plain be confusing.
The Browns made their big change by putting OC Tommy Rees in charge of play calling coming out of the bye week. Paul DePodesta’s departure will not impact on the field things but was big news this week as well.
For the New York Jets, trading away their two best defenders indicates that they are focused on the future, but HC Aaron Glenn is also working on building the culture of the team. As one of the many teams that could be tanking the rest of the season, the Jets really do not have a reason to start either QB Justin Fields or QB Tyrod Taylor over the other.
In fact, it’s possible that Cleveland’s defense could see both on the field this week (especially with the Browns struggling with misdirection plays), no matter who starts. For now, New York is not tipping their hand on who will get that first snap:
“Our guys know who’s going to be the quarterback,” Glenn said, via a transcript from the team. “I know who’s going to be the quarterback. It’s just not my responsibility to have to tell you that.”
Struggling teams do random things, like this, for a variety of reasons. Odds are, both quarterbacks will see the field, especially if Taylor starts. Fields’ legs, with the threat of throwing the ball, can be a great change-up for the Jets offense.
