Yet another intriguing Sox prospect makes his major league debut tonight. In a year that’s already featured Kristian Campbell, Hunter Dobbins (RIP), Marcelo Mayer (RIP), Roman Anthony (please no RIP here!), Jhostynxon Garcia, and Peyton Tolle all appear in a Boston uniform for the first time, we can now add Connelly Early to the mix.
If you want to learn more about him as you watch the game with a midnight snack, here’s Dan’s piece on Early from, well … earlier today.
His opponent on the mound will
be former Red Sox pitcher Jeffrey Springs, and if you don’t remember him, it’s likely because he was only in Boston for the 2020 Covid shortened season, and absolutely stunk in a Sox uniform to the tune of a 7.08 ERA.
Since he’s left handed, the Sox unsurprisingly have deployed the latest version their platoon patrol lineup, which will feature eight out of nine guys batting from the right side of the plate tonight.
A win in this game ensures the Sox will not come home with a losing record on this road trip after starting it 0-2, and may give them a chance to pick up ground in the division as both the Blue Jays and Yankees are currently losing their games in the middle innings tonight.
