After beginning the season with a pair of rollicking 4-0 wins over Fiorentina and Lecce, attacking upgrades seem like the last thing Roma needs. Between Donyell Malen, Paulo Dybala, Matías Soulé, and now Rodrigo Mora, there is plenty of attacking talent to go around. However, with another 40-plus matches remaining this season, it won’t be long before Gian Piero Gasperini needs fresh legs in the final third.
To no one’s surprise, the bulk of the deadline-day rumors have centered on the club’s ongoing
pursuit of a left-winger to complement Roma’s bevy of attacking midfielders. What began as a controversial pursuit of English winger Mason Greenwood has now narrowed to two names, two Jaimes, to be exact: Chelsea youngster Jamie Gittens and Stuttgart’s multifaceted attacker Jamie Leweling.
Gittens’ name popped up on the transfer radar earlier this summer, more as a speculative loan option than a surefire starter. While there is no denying his potential, Roma seems to prefer Leweling, who has made 126 competitive appearances for Stuttgart over the past three years, playing at left wing, right wing, attacking midfield, and even wing-back.
While it was reported over the weekend that Roma and Stuttgart had agreed to a €35 million deal for the 25-year-old German winger, Leweling reportedly needed further convincing to join the Giallorossi. However, with Silly Season EOD fast approaching, he seems to be warming to the idea of life in Rome.
With the Friedkin family sending a private jet his way, Leweling has reportedly agree to join Gasperini’s group.
While all the usual rumor journalists agree that Roma has intensified their efforts to sign Leweling, Schira takes it one step further, suggesting the deal is done and dusted.
