He’s a 20-year-old rising talent who has already flashed his attacking flair in a top-five league in Europe. Now Olympique Lyonnais winger Malick Fofana could be set for a big move.
The Belgian international — first called up last fall — has earned it with his 11 goals + five assists in all competitions for Lyon last season. And his club’s precarious financial situation — for which they were initially relegated from Ligue 1 before winning a lifeline by appeal in this summer — could help pave his way
out.
From L’Équipe, as captured by @iMiaSanMia:
Olympique Lyon need to sell for €40m in order to meet the target set by the French football financial watchdog, which is their valuation of Malick Fofana. The player has been informed of the club’s intention to sell him. As of now, the only concrete offer came from Everton (€36m including add-ons), but Fofana only wants to join a Champions League club and is playing for time, as Bayern and Arsenal have him on their shortlist. Things could accelerate in the final days of the window, especially in the Premier League [@hugoguillemet, @lequipe]
Could this be the one for Bayern Munich to address both the current numbers situation on the roster — and add a young, promising talent for the ongoing generational refresh in attack? Lyon has to sell. Arsenal is closing in on Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze instead. The Bavarians look to have a shot, if they want to take it.
