Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has set new standards throughout his career and he added another distinction to list during the German national team’s massive 7-1 victory over Curaçao.
Neuer is now the oldest German player to make an appearance for the national team as he squeaked past Lothar Matthäus:
With his performance against Curaçao, Manuel Neuer is making history! 🐐🇩🇪
This is a pretty
cool thing for Neuer, but also one that he likely was not expecting. Just a few months ago, Neuer was totally out of the picture for Germany, but after some discussions with a few teammates and head coach Julian Nagelsmann, Neuer made the decision to return to the squad.
As of now, it looks like the 40-year-old made the right call as he is a very important part of Nagelsmann’s starting XI. Germany will face Côte d’Ivoire on Saturday at 4PM EDT in Toronto, Ontario.
