After a disappointing 17-17-2 season, the Boston University Terriers are off to a 3-1 start thanks largely to their netminder. Mikhail Yegorov has a 1.00 GAA and .956 save percentage in those four games with one shutout. Doing just about everything, Yegorov even has more points than Devils forward prospect Conrad Fondrk by earning an assist on this OT play.
To be fair, Fondrk has only played two games this season, missing this weekend’s contests due to an injury. The former second round pick is listed as day to day and was skating in the Top 6 before the setback. His points should come once he returns.
As to Yegorov, for an in depth breakdown of the Boston University star, check out his personal analytics webpage here, a move that is sure to please Devils GM Sunny Mehta. The site is very detailed, even breaking Yegorov’s stats by period. It’s a fun tool to scroll through.
Around the Pool:
- Adirondack Thunder opened up this weekend with a 5-2 victory. Defenseman Jeremy Hanzel scored his first of the year off an assist from my new favorite ECHLer, Grant Loven. Goaltender Seth Eisele earned the opening night victory stopping 25 of 27.
- Utica lost its first game of the season, 4-0 against first place Laval on Saturday. Jakub Malek let up three goals in the loss, squaring his season to 1-1 with a 2.04 GAA and .902 SV%. Before the game, the Utica Comets were the last remaining undefeated team in the AHL.
- Center Alexander Command is really too good to be in the U20s.
- Forward Matias Vanhanen scored his first collegiate goal of his career this weekend and now has three points in three games for Boston College. As I could not find video of the goal online, enjoy his second NCAA assist.
- Goaltender Trenten Bennett returned from injury for the Flint Firebirds stopping 26 of 29 in an OT loss.
- Defenseman Nikita Shcherbakov has earned some national team honors. Shcherbakov has six points in 18 games for Salavat so far this season. The big Russian will turn 19 later this week. The KHL record in points for a 19-year-old defenseman is 15 per Quant Hockey. Shcherbakov’s current pace is 23.
- Winger Kasper Pikkarainen scored a nice goal for his 2nd of the season.
- Lastly, forward Luke Wilfley is starting to break out for the Portland Winterhawks of the WHL with 6 points in his first 8 games after putting up only 15 points all of last season. Check out this slick pass.
