The Syracuse Orange have landed their first transfer commitment. Tight end Michael Smith of South Carolina has agreed to join the Orange per reports.
The 6’4 Smith is from Savannah Georgia and in 2024 he had 10 receptions for 106 yards and a touchdown. This year he missed some time with a shoulder injury and dccided to leave South Carolina after four games and limited playing time.
Coming out of high school, he was rated a four-star prospect and chose the Gamecocks over offers from Florida, Miami, Ohio State, Alabama and others. Smith was ranked the 12th best TE in the portal by ON3 and 13th by 247. He’ll have three seasons of eligibility. He joins a Syracuse group that includes David Clement, Elijah Washigton-Baker, Wyatt Bowman, and Carter Bashir.
Two potential targets from Toledo will head elsewhere. DT Esean Carter is following Jason Candle to UConn and DE Malachi Davis will join Rutgers.
Stay tuned for more information as it the next two weeks will be busy.
