There are six remaining undefeated teams in the FBS, and one of them resides in Annapolis, MD.
The Navy Midshipmen are 7-0 for the fifth time in program history as the 2025 season joins the hallowed ranks
of 7-0 starts from years past — 1926, 1934, 1960, and 1978.
Navy tied a program record with 10 consecutive victories dating back to last season, and that streak ranks second in the FBS, only trailing defending national champion Ohio State which rides an 11-game win streak. In order to make the streak double-digits, the Midshipmen handled Florida Atlantic 42-32 and improved their conference record to a spotless 5-0.
The architect behind it all is quarterback Blake Horvath, who made another Heisman statement Saturday in Annapolis. The quarterback rushed for a season-high 174 yards and a career-high four touchdowns on a spectacular 8.3 average, recording his fifth-straight game with 110+ rushing yards and at least one rushing touchdown and his 11th such performance in the last two seasons. Horvath, ranked eighth in the FBS in rushing and first among quarterbacks, is now averaging 146 rushing yards across his last five outings.
Horvath has not been shy about his passing ability this year, tallying 339 passing yards and three touchdowns against Air Force to usher in October. However, that element of his game was not needed to that extent vs. Florida Atlantic as he completed 8-of-12 attempts for 83 yards.
Navy’s offense generated 503 yards in total and 397 as a rushing unit. In addition to Horvath’s domination, the Midshipmen received a strong boost from running back Brandon Chatman, who added a career-best 141 yards on 10 carries. Fullback Alex Tecza added 55 and a touchdown as Navy built a lead as great as 42-19 in the fourth quarter behind an unstoppable ground attack.
Florida Atlantic’s stellar aerial offense countered with 381 passing yards and four touchdowns, including 299 from starting quarterback Caden Veltkamp. The Owls struck first and remained in the contest until the fourth quarter, trailing 21-13 at the conclusion of the third frame. The fourth quarter proved quite eventful as 40 of the game’s 74 points were recorded in that final 15 minutes. In a battle of contrasting styles, Navy rushed for three touchdowns in the fourth while Florida Atlantic delivered three through the air.
Florida Atlantic (3-5, 2-3 American) dropped its second-straight conference matchup to end a difficult two-game road stretch at South Florida and Navy. Led by first-year head coach Zach Kittley, the Owls aim to rebound at home against Tulsa on Nov. 8.
Meanwhile, Navy (7-0, 5-0 American) aims to sustain perfection. Navy’s best-ever stretch to initiate a season is 9-0 in 1926, and the Midshipmen will chase that 99-year old accomplishment down the stretch of the season. The intensity amplifies though as next on the docket is Navy’s toughest opponent of the 2025 season. The Midshipmen travel west to Denton, TX to battle a 7-1 North Texas squad led by star quarterback Drew Mestemaker — commencing a highly-anticipated quarterback matchup between two Heisman hopefuls.
