Boston College has had an extra week to recover and regroup from their disappointing loss to Stanford out on the west coast two weeks ago. Now they will face the ACC’s other Pacific Time Zone addition,
Cal, this time on BC’s home turf. This feel like a very important game for the Eagles’ season. If they can’t win at home against a lousy Cal team after resting for a weekend, expectations are going to drop to the floor.
Who: Boston College Eagles (1-2) vs California Golden Bears (3-1)
Where: Alumni Stadium, Chestnut Hill, MA
When: Saturday September 27th, 2025
Kickoff Time: 3:30pm ET

First Quarter Report Card: Boston College is Still Searching
What to Watch For
- Dylan Lonergan needs to steady the ship. We know he is capable of some great playmaking. But his first-season jitters clearly got to him in his last game. I’d like to see him settle things down, protect the football, and not try to do too much. The game script might get difficult if BC once again fails to establish their run game, but the Eagles should still have the upper hand if Lonergan can keep a cool head.
- Can we please establish the run? Lonergan has looked good for stretches of his young career, but he’s gotten no help from the BC running game. Putting the full weight of the offense on a young quarterback’s shoulders often leads to chaos, as we saw against Stanford. Whatever happened to Jordan McDonald? I’d love to see the Eagles establish some power running from him and others early to take the pressure off of Lonergan.
- BREAKING NEWS: The defense needs to make tackles! It’s Game #4 and we’re already making sarcastic jokes about the Boston College defense and their tackling ability. Not a great sign. Now that they’re back at home with some additional prep time, it would be a really encouraging sign if BC defenders are able to contain the big plays and make stops in the open field. I’m not asking for perfection, just some improvement.
Prediction: Boston College 27 Cal 23
The law of averages shall prevail! Even in the midst of the highs and lows of Boston College football. All of the ingredients are there for BC to finally get that win that they’ve been searching for. Picking a Cal win on Saturday would amount to fully giving up on the season. And it’s only September, I’m not quite ready to do that. Go Eagles!
