After having to come off in the second half against Galatasaray on Tuesday due to an apparent leg injury, there were concerns Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike could be set for an enforced spell on the sidelines.
However, those concerns appear to have perhaps been overblown following reports that the player believed he had only suffered a cramping issue following the match and now news that he has been called up to the French national team for the October international break.
With Liverpool’s other attacking
options so far struggling in 2025-26, the Reds have looked most dangerous when Ekitike is on the pitch and taking matters into his own hands.
So far this season, Ekitike has five goals and an assist in nine appearances, with three of the goals and the assist coming in five Premier League appearances—and the only real mark against the suspension that ruled him out of last weekend’s league game against Crystal Palace.
In addition to it looking likely that Ekitike will be able to face Chelsea, the club are also hopeful that Federico Chiesa—the Reds’ other bright spot in attack—will be fit to take on the Blues after missing out mid-week.
However, news is less positive for goalkeeper Alisson. As yet there are no details on the severity of his hamstring injury, but having undergone scans expectation is he will miss significant time, with Giorgi Mamardashvili getting the chance to impress in his absence.
