Fast-rising heavyweight prospect Moses Itauma was finally scheduled for his next fight against Jermaine Franklin, which was supposed to take place in January, until an unfortunate training camp injury forced Itauma to have the fight postponed. At the time there weren’t any real details about the injury that were publicly released, but it’s now been revealed to have been a bicep tear that caused the fight to be pushed to its new March 28 date in Manchester, England.
“I had a sparring session and that’s
when I’d done it,” Itauma said. “I said to Frank, ‘I’ve done this, I’ve done that’ … And then he told me to go get a scan. I was like ‘no, I’ll be alright, I’ll be alright.’ I was trying my best to kind of recover a tear because I thought it was like a little niggle, as boxers we just carry on and push through it.”
Itauma would continue by explaining that while he tried to work through it he would ultimately realize that something was definitely wrong and it wasn’t something that was getting better, which necessitated a trip to the doctor that revealed a grade 2 tear in his bicep.
With Itauma supposedly now feeling better after taking time off to recover, he says he’s been back in full training and is ready to pick up where he left off as he attempts to work his way towards a world title opportunity.
