Mizzou running back Ahmad Hardy is in stable condition after suffering a gunshot wound early Sunday morning at a concert in Mississippi.
Hardy underwent surgery, according to a statement released by Mizzou Athletics. The statement added Hardy’s timeline for a return to playing football is unknown, though a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel says that there is “optimism” that Hardy will be able to play again.
Hardy emerged as one of the nation’s top running backs last year, becoming a finalist for the Doak Walker Award, and has been projected as a first round pick for next season’s NFL Draft. He resigned with Missouri in the offseason.
Our thoughts here at Rock M, surely along with many others, are with Hardy and his family as he recovers.
We will update this story as additional information becomes available.
