Just before halftime of the Kansas City Chiefs’ Week 4 contest against the Las Vegas Raiders, the Chiefs drove 70 yards in 10 plays, reaching the 10-yard line before settling for a field goal. That put Kansas City into a 10-10 tie that would be broken by the Raiders shortly after. Las Vegas took a 13-10 lead into the locker room.
Instead of a 14-13 lead at the break, which would have been the score if the Chiefs had converted the red-zone drive, the team was down three and began the second half on defense.
After the field-goal drive, the CBS broadcast showed quarterback Patrick Mahomes and offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy in a lengthy sideline discussion. Mahomes seemed pretty amped up, while Bieniemy seemed to give his perspective and listen to Mahomes’.
When the game resumed in the third quarter, sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson shared a note that head coach Andy Reid gave her about the conversation. Reid called it “frustration and competitiveness,” per Wolfson.
Reid also added, per Wolfson, that “you have to score when you get down there.”
The Chiefs have 10 points through five possessions in Las Vegas as of this writing. Play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz mentioned frustration on Kansas City’s sideline again after a commercial break in the second half.
