The Portland Trail Blazers are rumored to be buyers in the current NBA Trade Season cycle. Looking to improve their roster, they’ll be strategizing to bring extra talent on board between now and the February 5th NBA trade deadline.
Bringing on talent implies sending out talent as well. That brings up a discussion question that’s been on my mind for a few weeks. Who is the most “tradeable” Trail Blazers player?
Obviously the players with the most talent on a roster are usually the most desirable, but
that’s not always indicative of how likely they are to be traded. Teams don’t often want to part with their best players. Sometimes those players are on huge and/or restricted contracts, making them less likely (or impossible) to be traded.
All of the following can factor into “tradeability”:
- Talent: how attractive you are to other teams and how willing your own team is to let you go
- Production, historical and current
- Contract size and length
- Age
- Skill set and Position
- Track record in the NBA (personal reputation, championship/playoffs pedigree, former draft position, etc.)
Teams prioritize these based on situational need, but they all matter.
So then, circling back to the original question, which Trail Blazers players have a combination of these factors making them most likely to be moved, should Portland decide to make a trade? You don’t have to cite just one player, but draw a limited subset out of the current roster. Which player(s) do you think are the most organically “tradeable” in Portland?
