You always get some mixed emotions and reactions to this game every year. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Navy Midshipmen play nearly every year (Covid year notwithstanding), and no matter what you think of playing the matchup every year, it is refreshing to play an opponent you don’t (and really, can’t) hate.
It was apropos that this game was played on Halloween because the first half was spooky for the Irish. Some uncharacteristic play led to some angst before everyone settled down and settled in.
There is also a common theme this week, and it involves some some gentleman not being employed
Overreactions to ND vs. Navy We Saw Online
Yeah, the first half was ugly. No rhythm or intensity shown on defense. Navy was bullying the Irish with their offense. But even amidst a close game (not blowout loss) and an eventual decisive win, we still get tweets like this. It’s truly fascinating.
A fellow staff member gets some love this week. I did say that Chris Ash had coaching malpractice with what the defense showed in the first half, especially with two weeks to prepare. Also, Denbrock getting too cute in the first half, like usual. So, I understand this take. But again, games take a full 60 minutes, and winning handily will tamper this thinking.
Same vibe as above. I think they did just fine. Is this extreme, maybe? But if the Irish would have continued to play how they did and squeaked out a win, I could definitely understand some hot seats.
