The Golden State Warriors will re-evaluate injured guard De’Anthony Melton in three weeks, according to a press release by the team on Wednesday afternoon. Melton, of course, suffered a torn ACL early
last season with the Warriors and has been unable to appear in an NBA game since. While the Dubs are excited to reintegrate a healthy Melton into their rotation at some point this season, his return is not quite on the immediate horizon.
“He has intensified his individual and small group on-court workouts and will be integrated into team practice over the next two weeks, including with the Santa Cruz Warriors,” the team press release said of Melton. “He will be re-evaluated again in three weeks.”
While the Dubs have gotten off to a 4-1 start even with Melton unavailable, head coach Steve Kerr could surely use another 3-and-D guard of Melton’s caliber. Young wings Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody have both gotten off to strong starts this season, but veteran guard Gary Payton II has looked to have taken a significant step back defensively. Without much offensive game, Payton is arguably unplayable in the team’s competitive rotation. Given that development, Melton’s arrival should go a long way toward lengthening the team’s bench.
