We’re a little late in posting today but I had to wait so I could get some recaps from the game last night. Overall, pretty pleased with what we saw considering one of the best players in the nation was
on the bench and it’s a lot of new guys.
ESPN has a full box score and everything else you need to know here. Looking at the box score, the lack of bench production is obvious but that happens when everyone has to move up a spot in the rotation. Not to mention, Self always seems a bit more successful with tight rotations.
CBS Sports also has a good recap on the evening.
Self also doesn’t expect Peterson to be out long which is good as the Jayhawks now head to Vegas to face Notre Dame and Syracuse. And looking past that, UCONN is next. Quite the early season run here.
Finally, Darryn Peterson is named on the watch list for the Wooden Award.
Kansas standout Darryn Peterson, BYU’s AJ Dybantsa and Duke star Cameron Boozer — the projected top-three picks in next summer’s NBA draft per ESPN — anchor this year’s men’s basketball Wooden Award Preseason Top 50 Watchlist, which was announced on Tuesday.
The Jayhawks are getting ready for their last Big 12 road game of the season this weekend with a trip to face the Hawkeyes in Ames.
The Kansas Jayhawks are set to finish off their Big 12 Conference road schedule this Saturday when they travel to Ames, Iowa to take on Iowa State at Jack Trice Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 11 a.m. CT on FS1.
Thought this was a decent reminder that winning 7-8 games isn’t as easy as it can sound at times.
Iowa State enters senior day hoping to give itself an opportunity to win eight games in back-to-back games for the second time in Campbell’s tenure.

As we’re all familiar with Joel Embiid’s issues with staying on the court and have wondered how Victor Wembanyama may fair…
The Spurs are erring on the side of caution in bringing back the franchise cornerstone, who underwent an MRI on Sunday. A source told ESPN that Wembanyama will be reevaluated in two to three weeks.
The Big 10 had been chasing a $2.4 billion dollar deal with private equity but USC and Michigan have now successfully paused that for the moment.
Despite being in the middle of a seven-year, $7 billion media rights package that runs through 2030, numerous schools are in need of money due to soaring operational costs, debt on stadium construction and renovations and revenue sharing with athletes.
Kentucky is another “blue blood” that is looking at a bumpy road ahead this season.
Posted a few weeks back about how I’m getting sucked into the current iteration of the coaching carousel. First link connected to hiring coaches states the obvious, everyone should be looking for the next Curt Cignetti.
Programs will survey different candidate profiles, trying to identify the best available coach for their specific places. But there’s one hiring process, and one candidate profile, that merits closer examination from just about any program.
Everyone should be trying to find the next Coach Cig.
The second link on the carousel, grades Virginia Tech’s hire of James Franklin highly.
When Franklin was fired and almost immediately announced his intentions to coach in 2026, Virginia Tech emerged as a natural landing spot for the 53-year-old. He has spent most of his career near the mid-Atlantic region, twice serving as a Maryland assistant, leading programs in Vanderbilt and Penn State and even working within the state at James Madison in 1997.
QOTD: How did last night’s effort change your opinion on this season for the basketball team?
