Patrick Mahomes’ trick play underscores embarrassing day for Raiders in loss to Chiefs | NFL.com
Patrick Mahomes got under center. He surveyed the defense. He barked a couple of times, then muttered so
loudly that not only the Raiders could hear him but also the TV cameras, which didn’t have time to censor some choice language.
“This play never (bleeping) works, man!” Mahomes yelled.
It was all a ruse. And the Raiders were fooled. They relaxed ever-so-slightly, thinking the Chiefs were trying to draw them off and ultimately would punt. So when Mahomes snapped the ball a second later, and handed to Kareem Hunt, he had enough room to pick up the first down. The Chiefs finished off the drive with another touchdown, and they never looked back in a 31-0 victory — their most lopsided shutout of the Raiders in the 133 times that the two teams have met.
Winner: Andy Reid
Reid’s Chiefs looked like they might finally be returning to title-caliber form in a prime-time rout of the Detroit Lions in Week 6. Everything finally clicked against the Raiders, though, with Patrick Mahomes greatly benefiting from the 2025 debut of Rashee Rice. The formerly suspended wide receiver showed up with seven catches and two scores to balance out Reid’s offensive arsenal.
Jayden Daniels exits Commanders’ loss; MRI on hamstring next | ESPN
Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels suffered a right hamstring injury early in the third quarter against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday and later was ruled out, yet another blow to a banged-up Washington offense in an eventual 44-22 loss.
Commanders coach Dan Quinn said Daniels will have an MRI on the hamstring Monday. Washington (3-4) next plays at Kansas City (4-3) on Oct. 27.
Daniels was not walking with a limp in the locker room after the game. Quinn said his star QB “definitely wanted” to play after the injury, which he suffered with 11:53 left in the third quarter when Dallas linebacker Shemar James had a clear path to him on a first-and-10 rush. Daniels was about to throw, but with James in his face, he pulled the ball down. Then when James hit him, Daniels lost the ball and, while being tackled, hurt his hamstring.
NFL Week 7 winners, losers: Chiefs, Eagles shine | Yardbarker
Kansas City Chiefs‘ AFC dominance. Joke is on you if you thought this season was going to be any different. Their 31-0 win over the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday was as one-sided as an NFL game could be.

Doug Martin, former Boise State and Buccaneers RB, dies | ESPN
Doug Martin, a former All-Pro running back for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has died, his family said in a statement Sunday.
He was 36.
“It is with great sadness to inform you all that Doug Martin passed away Saturday morning,” the family said in a statement released to multiple outlets. “Cause of death is currently unconfirmed. Please respect our privacy at this time.”
Tampa Bay, where Martin spent six of his seven NFL seasons, called him a “fan favorite” who made “a lasting impact on our franchise.” He was selected one of the top 50 players in franchise history as part of its 50-year anniversary celebration.
Bo Nix, Broncos outlast Giants with historic comeback in 4th | ESPN
The Denver Broncos hadn’t scored until the fourth quarter Sunday, trailed the New York Giants by 18 points with just over 10 minutes left and then by two with 37 seconds to go. But they somehow sprinted into the locker room at Empower Field at Mile High with a thrilling 33-32 win that left Surtain and his teammates amazed.
“We fought to the end,” Surtain said. “In this league, no matter how much you’re down, there’s always a will, and there’s always a way.”
Before Sunday, teams had lost 1,602 consecutive games when trailing by at least 18 points with six minutes to play. Denver, though, changed that with 33 points in the fourth quarter, its most in a quarter in franchise history and tied for the second most in a quarter in NFL history.
“I don’t even know how we scored 33 points in a quarter, that’s kind of insane,” Broncos quarterback Bo Nix said. “It’s just whatever we had to get done, we did it … By any means necessary.”
The 49ers defense is deeper than we realized
Losing Bosa, one of the game’s top sack artists, was daunting enough. Then Warner, the heart and soul of the 49ers’ defense, went down, too. Somehow San Francisco … got better? Well, maybe that’s a stretch, but what Robert Saleh’s unit put on display Sunday was postseason-caliber punishment. Bryce Huff looked like a freak of nature rounding the corner in pursuit of Penix, Bethune showed solid instincts on the second level, and the corner group never let Penix challenge them down the field. Better offenses will test them more (see: Week 6’s loss to the Buccaneers), but maybe we shouldn’t be so quick to write them off for the stretch run. There’s still a tangible level of nastiness emanating from the front seven.

Chiefs Roster: Rashee Rice’s return fuels dominant win over the Raiders
The spark behind the blowout came from a familiar source. Making his season debut after missing six games from an NFL suspension — and nearly all of last year with a season-ending knee injury — wide receiver Rashee Rice immediately became a key contributor to the Chiefs’ offense. He had seven catches for 42 yards and two touchdowns as he re-established his rapport with quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
“It was great to have him back,” said head coach Andy Reid after the game. “You saw the trust that Pat has in him, which is so important for Pat and the guys. It was great. I thought the whole receiving crew did a nice job, but it was great to have him back in there. The energy he brings is tremendous.”
That chemistry between Mahomes and Rice showed up early in the game. The quarterback — who threw for 286 yards and three touchdowns before sitting out the fourth quarter — connected with his third-year wideout on a quick two-yard pass for the first score of the game.
