Week 4 of the NFL season concluded with 15 Maryland football alumni seeing the field.
New York Giants cornerback Deonte Banks sealed a nailbiting 36-24 win over the Arizona Cardinals Sunday afternoon. Banks intercepted quarterback Jacoby Brissett on a 4th down final play in the redzone, with Arizona looking to walk off the Giants.
Brissett attempted to complete a pass to wide receiver Michael Wilson. However, Banks jumped the short curl route and returned the ball 98 yards for the score. This was Banks’
first interception since his rookie year in 2023.
Sunday’s performance was also his first career defensive touchdown and third overall interception.
The Baltimore native rebounded after a crucial pass interference call while covering receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. That moved the Cardinals down to the 8-yard line and gave them a fresh set of downs. However, Banks prevailed with the stop.
New York advanced to 3-1 with the victory and is in first place of the NFC East for the first time since 2022.
In addition to his late-game heroics, Banks had four deflected passes and tackles. This came in his return to competition after missing two weeks with a calf injury.
Pro Football Focus graded the 25-year-old at 88 overall, with a 90 grade in pass coverage. Banks missed only one tackle in 66 snaps.
In Week 5, the Giants travel to play the Washington Commanders Sunday at 1 p.m. ET, with the game airing on FOX.
