CMLL biggest show of the year culminated in mask versus hair. The 93rd Anniversary event (Sep. 18, 2026) featured talent from around the world coming from AEW, New Japan, and Stardom. Let’s jam through the results.
The main event was a mask versus hair suicide final. The contest started with four tag teams made up of rivals. The winning team advanced to the lucha de apuestas. Mistico started the action hot with a flying crossbody off the stage. Barbaro Cavernario & Dragon Rojo Jr. were the first elimination
when Templario pinned Dragon on a powerbomb. Zandokan Jr. & Star Jr. were the second elimination when Averno pinned Star on a double underhook facebuster. Ultimo Guerrero & Templario were the third elimination when Mistico pinned Templario on a springboard Mexican destroyer. The finale was set for Mistico and Averno in mask versus hair. Averno was confident in victory after executing an avalanche double underhook facebuster. Mistico kicked out on the pin and rallied for La Mistica armbar to win. The barber chopped off Averno’s hair.
Averno stayed rudo in the aftermath by attacking Mistico and removing all three masks of the Sky Team.
CMLL introduced a new World Heavyweight Championship belt, and Hechicero will keep the gold by his side. The Alchemist of the Ring triumphed in a three-way over Claudio Castagnoli and Zack Sabre Jr. Technical prowess was on display. The champ stretched Claudio into submitting. Somewhere, Don Callis is screaming, “Yo soy Hechicero!” Hechi’s reign stands at 183 days and counting.
Andrade was the lone victory on the night for AEW. El Idolo bested long-time rival Volador Jr. Andrade weathered the storm to keep fighting after Volador connected on a blitz of offense into the Mexican destroyer. Andrade sent the DM, and he had Volador’s number for the win. How you know?
Persephone borrowed a page from Eddie Guerrero’s playbook to retain the CMLL Women’s World Championship in a four-way against Tessa Blanchard, Mina Shirakawa, and Starlight Kid. Blanchard had victory within her grasp after three consecutive cutters to Starlight Kid. As the referee bent over to check on Kid, Perse charged with the title belt as a weapon. Blanchard ducked, and Perse bumped the referee over. Perse tossed the title into the hands of Blanchard and flopped down to the mat. The referee assumed that Blanchard cheated, so the win was awarded to the champ. Persephone lied, cheated, and stole the victory to continue her reign at 197 days and counting.
The ROH world champion tasted defeat in a non-title bout as Bandido went down to Soberano Jr. The crowd was hot for this match. Soberano went full rudo biting fingers, pulling off Bandido’s pants, and ripping his mask. Bandido scored the 21 Plex, but it wasn’t enough to get the finish. Soberano surged in the end with a piledriver onto the top turnbuckle pad and another piledriver on the mat to win.
Bandido lost the match, but he may have won the night in fashion.
Titan defeated Komander to retain the CMLL World Welterweight Championship. One mistake is all it takes. It was a competitive battle, then Titan put Komander in a precarious position. Komander was attempting possibly an avalanche poison rana. Titan swept the legs out, and Komander was hung up in the corner. Titan jumped backwards to nail a flying stomp. The champ dragged Komander to the center for a bridging Texas Cloverleaf submission to win. Very cool finish. Titan’s reign stands at 2,477 days and counting.
Los Hermanos Chavez retained the CMLL World Tag Team Championship in a four-way bout against Los Villanos, Mascara Dorada & Neon, and Los Calavera. Angel de Oro and Niebla Roja closed with a powerbomb and frog splash combo to pin one of the Villanos. The champs’ reign stands at 1,700 days and counting.
Blue Panther won the legends match against Jeff Jarrett. The Last Outlaw went rudo to earn the crowd’s jeers. Blue Panther rallied with a flying crossbody off the ramp. In the end, Blue Panther fluidly snatched Jarrett’s arm for an armbar to win.
In the opener, Stardom took the trios win as Maika, Mei Seira, & Ema Maishima prevailed over Sanely, Candela, & Kira. Seira earned the pin on Candela with a move I’ve never seen before. Research says it was a backflip crucifix driver called the Checkmate.
